B&Q says snow put Britons off DIY

(TIMES ONLINE) - Fewer Britons took to DIY at the start of the year because of the heavy snow, the owner of B&Q said today.

Kingfisher, which owns a string of similar stores in France, Russia and Spain, said that like-for-like sales, which do not take account of new store openings, fell by 3 per cent in the 13 weeks to January 31.

The company said that January was significantly disrupted by the heavy snow and low temperatures across Europe, particularly in the UK and Poland.

Total sales in the group’s fourth quarter fell 1 per cent to £2.3 billion.
